Investment Advice for Mom
A dialog that I'm sure will resonate with many of you
Mom (Client): Hi son, how are you? I just love these Boom calls.
Son (Advisor): These are Zoom calls Mom. Because of the coronavirus, If we want to talk to each other, this is the best way to do it.
C: Anyway, this makes me so happy. I want you to buy me some of their stock.
A: Mom, I can’t buy you Zoom stock because it’s too risky for you. It goes up and down a lot. You’re older now, your portfolio is your only source of income and we want it to last.
We’re better off buying stocks that pay dividends and bonds that pay interest, and we need to make sure that you have enough money to last your lifetime.
Daughter (D): Mom, listen to your son. He manages your money and he knows what’s best for you.
C: Who are you?
D: I'm your daughter Mom.
C: Whatever. Listen son, I want you to do what I say. Remember, I’m still your mother and you’re never too old to get spanked!
A: Mom, I’m in my sixties and we’re on a Zoom call. Plus, I'm thousands of miles away. Anyway, you can enjoy using Zoom, but you cannot own the stock. We’re going to stick to the plan to guarantee that you get monthly income.
C: Okay son, I guess just this once I will listen to you. By the way, what time is it?
A: It’s 3pm.
C: Oh my god, I’m late for dinner! I have to go now. Son, I just love these Varoom calls and I want to you buy me some of their stock.
A: Enjoy your dinner Mom. I love you and will call you tomorrow.
