Know Your Peanut Butter; Take Control of Your Life.
What You Were; What You Can Be
If you know your peanut butter, you can take control of your life.
What do I mean by that?!
Are you simply accepting the people, the career, the investments, - heck even the peanut butter - in your life as the way it's just "supposed to be"?
I once ate fifty different kinds of peanut butter (the real thing with crunchy peanuts and salt only, no heart attack-inducing partially hydrogenated fats for me). I tried three at a time and I ranked them. The top two made it to the next round; I added a new third jar. The loser third I finished completely (why waste it?). The prices ranged from $2 to $10. Surprisingly the winner was the $2 peanut butter: the perfect amount of salt with a crunch of peanut in every bite.
The result: I opened up my universe, I opened up my options, I SELECTED my own peanut butter; it wasn't selected for me. Here's what else I learned:
Career Choice? Remember the old joke about how you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice. Well, how do you become a professional food taster? Eat, eat, eat.
Investment Idea? On a scale of 0 to 10, if your $2 peanut butter gets a 10 and your your $10 peanut gets a 0, assuming a straight line, you get diminishing marginal returns for every penny spent above $2. In other words, if you like the $2 peanut butter the best, don’t spend a penny more for any other.
Life lesson? Learn whatever you need to learn to get to wherever you want to get.
